Quick History

With it's runway debut in the A/W 1994 collection, the Maison Margiela charity tee served as a tangible and financial token of solidarity during the height of the AIDS epidemic.

Designed to be indecipherable to spark conversation, the script reads:

There Is More Action To Be Done To Fight AIDS Than To Wear This Tee But It's A Good Start

Since then the print has re-emerged itself into almost every collection, reinventing itself into various silhouettes (such as bags, dresses, and jackets) and continuing to provide proceeds to the AIDS foundation.

LOOK 1

JACKET: Venus Williams x Wilson’s Leather

SKIRT: Zara

SHOES: Dr.Martens

I was inspired by the “Margiela-look”, especially with the lab-esque coat. The tee I paired it with is actually my favorite color way I own and is an exclusive Japanese release from the early 2000’s.

LOOK 2

JACKET: Helmut Lang

PANTS: Zadig & Voltaire

BANDANA (worn as scarf): Cactus Flea Plant Market

SHOES: German Army Trainers

I don’t like pink.

I find it hard to incorporate the color into my daily routine and the brighter the shade, the less likely I am to wear it...YET when I become possessed with spirit of impulse, plans are derailed and fushia things magically appear into my wardrobe. Such as this limited edition Japanese release tee that I obviously felt compelled to covet.

Needless to say, considering how bright this tee is, I decided to calm it down with a denim jacket and assert my dominance with a classic pair of leather pants. As for my sneakers, they’re the original German Army Trainer serving as an ode to the designer and also as one of the most comfortable shoes in my artillery.

LOOK 3

JACKET: Army Surplus

HOODIE: Ralph Lauren

PANTS: Zara

BOOTS: Army Surplus

BAG: Vintage

HAT: Moschino

I love when I go out in public in full army fatigue and have the nerve to be confused when asked, “have you served?” but this truly as patriotic and cozy as it gets for me. Once I put this on I had the urge to run errands while simultaneously listening to an episode of Dark History but to be honest was bound to do it anyway.

As much as I love this colorway I don’t find myself grabbing it very often and moving forward, as I resize my wardrobe, I want to gravitate towards have a closet full of items I not only love but wear often. I decided to pair it with items that I either have rebought over the years or have owned for years (6+ years strong with my military boots).

***NOTE: I‘ve obviously had to let go of the last 2 tees but I’m glad they’re off to better homes. Feel free to hop my impulses HERE
